Drawings- One Line at a Time

Each year I select a skill I want to learn and do it. This journey started in 2017 as I chose to work on and learn to create realistic drawings of the human face. After a few hours watching YouTube Tutorials, I grabbed a reference photo and went for it!

After that I tried other things, drawing more of my family and then, finally, I started to work on a portrait of Jesus. It was a bit intimidating. I mean, I'm trying to draw a perfect person. I struggled, changed the nose and chin and kept at it until after a few days and some input from family, I was able to get it right.

Since starting this adventure, I now create custom portraits. Some I've sold and others I've given. Below are some of the portraits I have recently drawn in 2018. This is by no means all of them. It's probably only 1/3.

Those above were from Tyler's family. The ones below start with my boys and then are a couple from my family. I haven't drawn new ones of them all yet, so the list is shorter than it should be.

This little stud is my Colter. His grin in this picture is my favorite. He is saying "cheese" in this picture and as I was drawing it, he was watching me and kept saying cheese like I was taking his photo! He's one of my favorite clients!

This is my Callan. He's definitely a cute little guy! He loves when I draw him and constantly asks me to do a new drawing! He's one of my favorite clients. He pays me in hugs and kisses!

I have images of all my nephews and nieces. I drew them all last year and sent them out as Mother's Day gifts. This year I have only started to draw them all. It's a big crew (7 nephews on my family's side and 6 nephews and 4 nieces on Tyler's side and them my 3) so I haven't included all their portraits yet as I don't have them all scanned in!

I have also drawn portraits of children with the Savior after a lady asked if I thought I could draw her adult nephew with Jesus. She still hasn't gotten me an image of him so I haven't done it. However, ever since she put the thought in my mind I have felt that it would be neat to try doing custom portraits of children with Jesus. Especially those that have gone home to Him.

This little man has an awesome story! He fought hard until the end. Now he is with Jesus!

This little angel touched the hearts of a dear friend of mine. I decided to draw this for her family.

Drawing is healing. It heals my heart and lets me love and adore the person I draw or become acquainted with them if they are someone else's child. It is therapeutic as it is one of the few things I can still do when my lupus flares. My hands may shake and ache but I can usually calm them down enough so I can draw. I guess it's God's way of letting me still create, even when things aren't going totally well with my health.
